After a successful sophomore season that saw more than 50 restaurants across the province rally together to celebrate and support Alberta Local Food Week in 2020, the third annual Alberta on the Plate festival returns next month with more participants than ever before.
Taking place from August 6 to 15, this year’s festival will feature 88 restaurants from 27 communities throughout Alberta who will aim to highlight local producers, growers, distillers, and brewers through a variety of multi-course fixed price menus and accompanying drink pairings.
In addition to returning festival favourites such as Calgary’s Rouge, Edmonton’s The Marc, Jasper’s Tekerra, and St. Paul’s Twisted Fork, several noteworthy eateries are joining the fray for the first time, including Calgary’s Calcutta Cricket Club, Edmonton’s RGE RD, Canmore’s Tapas Restaurant, and many more.
“This slate of restaurants showcases the local flavours that influence each region of the province,” stated Tannis Baker, Director of Big Ideas with Food Tourism Strategies. “From the Indigenous peoples who shaped our land, to the immigration influences of the French, Ukrainian, Chinese and Vietnamese, the Alberta terroir is shaped by the people as much as by the land which is reflected in the diversity of the restaurants, food products and culinary creators across Alberta.”
Alberta on the Plate will begin revealing prix fixe menus on August 1. The full list of participating restaurants can be found online.
