Following the positive community response to its commitment in 2018 to carry only Alberta-raised beef products, Calgary Co-op announced this week that it is taking that pledge one step further by offering a new, higher quality black angus beef brand.

In addition to being a step up in terms of both tenderness and flavour, the Only Alberta Black Angus Beef brand also comes with a sustainability certification from the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB).

“This move to Only Alberta Black Angus Beef featuring the CRSB Certified mark reiterates our commitment to our community, says Ken Keelor, CEO of Calgary Co-op.” Not only are we providing the highest quality, locally produced beef to our members, but we are also supporting initiatives of our local cattle ranchers while helping to preserve our fragile ecosystem at the same time.”

All CRSB-certified beef producers pass through a third party audit to determine its sustainability across five areas: natural resources, people and community, animal health and welfare, food, and efficiency and innovations.

The Only Alberta Black Angus Beef brand is now available at all Calgary Co-op locations. More information about the CRSB standards and process can be found online.
