For food-loving Vancouverites, visiting Richmond is a regular occurrence, seeing as the city is known well for its superb Chinese cuisine. It's sure to have more people planning their travels to it throughout 2020 though, as Eater has just included the Vancouver-adjacent city in their "Where to Eat Around the World in 2020" feature.
The long-form piece--brought to life with insight from culinary experts around the world--includes nineteen cities across the globe including Cork (Ireland), Porto (Portugal) and Milwaukee. Richmond is the only Canadian city to grace the list. The small city boasts over 800 restaurants, the large majority of which are Chinese.
The most glowing line in Richmond's write-up gets straight to the point: "It’s the best place to eat Chinese food in North America, hands down."
Where to Eat Around the World in 2020 Congratulations Richmond BC on being recognized as one of the 19 most dynamic food cities in the world right this second." Hey, didn't I write something similar just last week? Secret's out! https://t.co/fvoJFm5You

"It's no secret to locals that Richmond has a diverse and strong culinary scene," said Nancy Small, chief executive officer of Tourism Richmond. "So, when food and travel authorities like Eater and New York Times give Richmond their seal of approval, it legitimizes what we already know to a much wider, global audience."
This week, Eater also released an "Essential Restaurants" list for the West Coast city written by Seattle-based food writer Jay Friedman that highlights places such as the famed Richmond Night Market, Lido and Chef Tony Seafood Restaurant.
