Winnipeg's celebrated restaurant Nola is gearing up to welcome a new next-door neighbour this week by way of its sister concept Bar Accanto.
The cozy-yet-slickly-designed wine bar from Burnley Place Hospitality (King + Bannatyne, Nola) will officially open on Thursday, April 27 at 5 p.m. and promises to be a unique dining destination all its own. Visually, the bar vibes differently than Nola thanks to accents like its cool thin-tiled bar, forest green banquettes and a wooden slat installation on the ceiling.
While Bar Accanto (which is Italian for "next to") is co-owned and overseen by chef Emily Butcher, the food menu comes courtesy of the bar's chef Colin Naylor and includes interesting dishes like a cucumber and kiwi salad with hemp dressing, pea and ricotta tortellini with lime leaf, fermented kohlrabi butter sauce, shiitake prosciutto xo and charred greens, and more.
When it comes to drinks, expect an interesting mix of wine options from around the globe, as well as natural wines from Low Life Barrel House, Dead Horse Cider, craft beers, and cocktails.
It doesn't seem fair to call Bar Accanto a "waiting room" for folks, well, waiting for their table at Nola, but the next-door proximity is a perfect reason to grab a pre-dinner or post-dinner drink...and maybe a couple small bites too.
Bar Accanto is located at 102-300 Tache Ave. and open from 5 p.m. to late Wednesdays to Sundays. Reservations can be made online via Tock.
