10 New songs by Canadian artists to add to your playlist - May 3, 2021 edition

Great new Canadian music to have a listen to

Another week, another great crop of Canadian music to get acquainted with. Our cooking playlist serves as a soundtrack to our week whether we're working away at home, making dinner or sipping on a TGIF cocktail on the back deck.

From a captivating new ballad from Ontario folk-soul singer Tania Joy to a funky bop from Edmonton's VISSIA, here are 10 new songs by Canadian artists that we're loving lately.

Emmet Michael - Colourblind

Edmonton folk singer Emmet Michael gives us equal parts raw emotion and sincerity in this powerful single he recently released. "Colourblind" is all about the kind of love that stops you dead in your tracks and, in turn, can change your whole perspective on life.

Maddison Krebs - Younger Brothers

We were very excited to see Alberta country singer Maddison Krebs drop a new single last week. "Younger Brothers" is a heartfelt track about the unshakable bond siblings can have for one another. No, you're crying!

Madison Olds x FALL or FLIGHT - Best Part of Me (gALAXYWAVE vARIANT remix)

Madison's original version of "Best Part of ME" is both catchy and moving–same goes for her acoustic version of the tune–and we are really loving the set of remixes she released last week. This particular remix by FALL or FLIGHT is giving off some serious 80s synth vibes and we are living for it.

Miss Benzo and TeaFannie - Edibles

Rapper TeaFannie and YYC Music Award-nominated R&B singer Miss Benzo released their collaborative EP Most Hated on Friday boasting five tracks. "Edibles" boasts some smooth verses and beats that are reminiscent of the 2000s in the best way.

Nuela Charles - More By The Minute

We still can't get enough of Nuela's single "Space" that she released earlier this year, so now with a new EP, we'll be spinning her music even more. Blissful Madness is a three-track EP that ends with the love-ridden song "More by the Minute" that has an alt-soul vibe all its own.

Play this one on repeat!

Orville Peck and Trixie Mattel - Jackson

This song might be found on drag queen superstar Trixie Mattel's new EP Full Coverage, but anything new from Orville (or Trixie) is something we can pass up. "Jackson" is a fun cover of the Johnny Cash and June Carter classic that sees Peck and Mattel singing sassily back and forth.

This is the iconic queer country duo the world has always needed.

Ryan Langlois - Just A Word

In a similar heartfelt vein to fellow Alberta country artist Maddison Krebs, Red Deer's Ryan Langlois is giving us all the feels with his latest tune "Just A Word". The slow and steady track boasts restrained vocals that help each word (pun not intended) Langlois is singing really soak in.

Tania Joy - Blink

Is it just us or do you also think that Tania Joy's new single "Blink" would feel right at home at the beginning of a James Bond film? Produced by Hill Kourkoutis, the ballad commands your attention from the get-go and leaves you hypnotized by Joy's vocals paired with a cinematic and dramatic sound.

Transit22 - Measure Up

Calgary rapper Transit22 makes us think with his latest release. With themes of mental health and the overall lack of humanity that the world seems to be full of these days, "Measure Up" should make a listener wonder how they can help make things better during these continued trying times.

VISSIA - Take it Apart

VISSIA's musical approach borrows influences from a wide range of genres to end up with a truly unique sound. Her new album With Pleasure has plenty of dynamic tracks to soak up, but "Take it Apart" has really captivated us with its upbeat, synth rock sound and catchy chorus. We can't help, but sing along.
