Owner of Velvet & Vino blog, Becky Kung knows a thing or two about living stylishly: where to look for some of the best food and looking good doing it. Kung loves to travel, often attending New York Fashion Week, and exploring the world. Obsessed with Asian food, Kung's two favourites are Chinese and Vietnamese food in Calgary. Follow Kung's suggestions for a great bowl of pho, spicy Taiwanese food and modern Korean dining.

Breakfast

I love Ladybug Bakery and Café for brunch! It feels like Paris when you walk in, with its white and fresh ambiance. The crepes are to die for. I always have the mushroom crepe with an almond milk latte.

Lunch

I’m a big fan of Vietnamese [food] and there are so many great options across the city. One of my favourites is Pho So 1 up on Centre Street. I especially love going there after travelling; it’s become a tradition to head straight to Pho So 1 after getting off the plane for a dose of my comfort food. I always order the satay beef ball pho; its satay is so good. In fact, every once in a while, it sells its homemade satay in a jar to take home.

I also love Han's in Chinatown. I’ve been going there for years! Taiwanese food is one of my favourites and it make the best spicy food, including the most delicious wontons in spicy sauce. My mouth waters just thinking about these!

Dinner

Anju has become my recent favourite. it’s been so consistently good, and its food is so flavourful. It’s always fun going there with girlfriends for its sharing plates and some wine. A few of my favourites are its chicken wings and oxtail tortellini, both are so tasty.

Drinks

Bar C never disappoints. I like going there for happy hour. it sure knows how to make an Old-Fashioned right, its unique twist of toasted orange slice with hints of smoked flavours sets this one apart. I also love its wine list. It has a sparkling rose of pinot noir that I’ve been enjoying lately, and you can’t beat its $1 oysters on Tuesdays!
