A little Jurassic Park, a little pop-up dinner, and a lot of fun. We are pleased as fossilized-punch to share that Alberta ERA--a one-of-a-kind dinner in the heart of the Alberta Badlands inspired by the Mesozoic world--is returning this June.
Taking place on Saturday, June 8, 2019, the 2nd annual science-meets-culinary event will offer an immersive prehistoric and pre-dinner experience hosted by dinosaur experts before guests experience a four-course dinner by some of Calgary's most talented chefs on the rooftop of the Royal Tyrrell Museum.
The four-course dinner menu, inspired by the various dinosaurs from different periods of the Mesozoic Era, will feature a jaw-dropping, carnivorous Alberta Pork main course (bring that T-Rex appetite!), and all dishes are pair with prehistoric-inspired cocktails by Madeleine MacDonald (SAIT) and Wyatt Sutherland (Two Penny) using Burwood Distillery spirits. Non-alcoholic pairing will also be created for any interested attendees.
The dinosaur-inspired dishes have been conceived and will be created by Calgary chefs Mharlon Atienza (Two Penny), Eraj Jayawickreme (Fairmont Palliser) and Garrett Martin (chef-at-large, formerly Bridgette Bar).
As an exciting bonus to this year's event, 10 lucky guests will be selected via random draw upon arrival at the Royal Tyrrell Museum to have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the museum's jaw-dropping fossil library which is not open to the general public.
This year, there are two types of tickets for this event: one which provides transportation to and from Drumheller and one which does not.
For tickets purchased with transporation:
We will provide coach transportation from a central downtown Calgary pick up spot (Fairmont Palliser at 133 9 Avenue S.W.) to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, leaving promptly at 2:30 p.m.
Upon arrival in Drumheller at approximately 3:45 p.m., guests will be moved into small groups and taken on a VIP tour of the museum, hosted by Tyrrell's gallery experience officers beginning at 4 p.m.
Once the event wraps and the sun sets on our beautiful 360 degrees Badlands backdrop, coach buses will take all Alberta ERA guests, who opted for transport, back to the Fairmont Palliser with an estimated arrival time of 10:30 p.m.
For tickets purchased without transportation:
We ask that guests arrive at the main lobby of the Royal Tyrrell Museum no later than 4 p.m. to take part in the museum tour.
Following the museum and private fossil tour, guests will be guided through a private staff area, up to the museum's rooftop for canapes, welcome cocktails by Burwood Distillery and an interactive fossil exhibition before sitting down for dinner at 6 p.m.
