What do you get when you combine Old World distilling techniques with New World ingredients? Odd Society Spirits, of course.
Since opening the doors to their small-batch distillery in 2013, the Odd Society Spirits team–led by husband-and-wife duo Gordan Glanz and Miriam Karp, brewer-distiller Joel McNichol, and talented bartenders like Olivia Povarchook–have accrued numerous accolades, including a recent Best in Class award at the 2021 Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition.
The name Odd Society initially came about during a session with B.C.-based marketing agency Cause+Affect.
“We had been throwing around a lot of names and often discussed that we were spirit lovers wanting to bring more people into our charmingly unusual group,” says Karp. “We also wanted people to feel comfortable and embrace their inner oddness, and to instill a sense of belonging.”
Karp goes on to explain that while they began the discussion with the intention of presenting their company as a club that beckons you to join and become a member, that concept eventually evolved into a society, and thus the name Odd Society Spirits was born.
Odd Society Spirits are open on Thursday and Friday from 3-10 p.m. and Saturday from 1-10 p.m. Curbside pickup and local delivery is also available online.
