Naturally lit by floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the harbour, the bustling Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market is teeming with vendors selling fresh vegetables, seafood and meat, baked goods, handmade crafts, and just about any type of locally-made goods to satisfy the craving of the day.
The market is the oldest continuously operating farmers' market in North America, created by Royal Proclamation in 1750 just one year after the founding of the city itself. Over the years, the market has been held in many locations around Halifax, including the Alexander Keith's Brewery. These days, you’ll find large black and white posters hanging high above the approximately 250 vendors, illustrating the market as it was in days gone by throughout the 1800s and 1900s.
