10 New songs by Canadian artists to add to your kitchen playlist - Aug. 7, 2020 edition

We've added these great new songs to our cooking playlist

With only a few weekends left in the summer–say it ain't so!–we are planning to spend as much time as humanly possibly in the sunshine, grilling up food and serving up refreshing drinks for our pals. Whether you're cooking in the kitchen or firing up the barbecue, you'll need some good tunes at your side. We've handpicking ten great new songs to keep our playlist as fresh as those greens in your garden.

From a souful new song from Calgary's Denise Valle to Classified's latest single, here are ten tunes we are loving this week.

Billy Raffoul - What Makes a Man

This heartfelt roots song by Billy Raffoul features stunning, raspy vocals, harmonica and is an all 'round wonderful listen. Raffoul is gives us the raw emotions we yearn for throughout "What Makes a Man".

Classified - Pick Your Poison

Classified's has been dropping plenty of listen-worthy tracks during the pandemic, including "Good News" (which we still love). His latest, "Pick Your Poison" is all about vices and addictions in everyday life.

Cory Marks featuring Lzzy Hale of Halestrom - Out in the Rain

We are suckers for a good ballad duet and that's what Cory Marks and Lzzy Hale deliver with "Out in the Rain". This is one of the few songs from the new album that shows country rocker Marks' softer side.

Denise Valle featuring Wyatt C. Louis - Circles

The Saskatoon-raised, Calgary-dwelling R&B singer Denise Valle dropped a stunning new song earlier this week. Featuring both Wyatt C. Louis and Blessing Asebiode, "Circles" is a slower tempo track that intertwines Valle's smooth vocals with Louis' chill beats. Just beautiful.

Elle McAndrews - Athens to Marrakesh

This mellow, jazzy debut single by Calgary-based singer Elle McAndrews has us hanging onto every wispy word she sings. The song subject itself is bittersweet while sounding perfectly summery.

kai - in the now

Toronto R&B singer kai's beautiful voice soars over a simple mix of beats (and a touch of strings) in the background. And boy, the love she is experiencing throughout "in the now" is palpable.

Mattmac - Still There

A perfect balance of auto-tuned vocals and layers upon layers of harmonies, "Still There" by Winnipeg's Mattmac is a real treat. The slightly melancholy subject matter makes you appreciate every verse that much more.

Olivia Lunny - Hold Me

We always get excited when Olivia Lunny drops a new tune and her latest, "Hold Me", does not disappoint. This catchy synth pop track will become a mainstay on our playlist for the rest of the summer.

Tenille Arts - TERRITORY

To be honest, we are hard-pressed to find a song that we don't love by the super talented Saskatchewan-born Tenille Arts. This new anthem "TERRITORY" displays plenty of grit and fiery vocals that we're not used to from Arts and now we just want more, more, more!

UPTOWN BOYBAND - BAG$

Dubbed as "alternative K-pop", Toronto's Uptown Boyband takes us a long for a fun ride with "BAG$". A touch of punk, a touch of early 2000's rock pop and a splash of trap, their unique sound is intoxicating.
