10 New songs by Canadian artists to add to your kitchen playlist - August 14, 2020 edition

Some great new Canadian-made songs to check out this week

With a little more than two weeks left in August, we are soldiering on with our mantra of entertaining outside, weather permitting, as much as possible. As always, we're keeping the Eat North Cooking Playlist on Spotify as fresh as the summer ingredients we're cooking with lately.

From a bluesy, heartfelt single by Calgary country singer Michela Sheedy to popstar Tyler Shaw's fun and upbeat release, to a cool dance track from Rita Baga of Canada's Drag Race, here are ten new songs we're really loving lately.

Adria Kain - Peace Be Still

Released earlier this summer, Adria Kain's "Peace Be Still" is an absolutely beautiful, emotive R&B song that draws you in immediately. Her voice is captivating enough on its own, but it's amplified by layered vocals and a calming sound of what we think is a river stream that can be heard on and off in the background.

Allie X - Super Duper Party People (Roy Davis Jr. Remix)

We're a little ashamed to say that Allie X is a new discovery for us. We're not ashamed to say, though, that we are in love with her fun indie pop tracks and clever lyrics. Released a couple of weeks ago, this remix for the single "Super Duper Party People" is an absolute bop.

Alex Hughes - Gentleman

Misleading song titles always lead to fun surprises? Alex Hughes' new song, "Gentleman", highlights the qualities of a man that is anything but. Couple the sassy, occasionally humorous, lyrics with a peppy guitar hook--which sort of reminds us of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful"--and you've got a heck of a fun tune.

Dog Day - Start It Up

After a seven-year hiatus, the synth rock group Dog Day has just dropped their new album Present. The album offers up plenty of soothing mellow songs and makes for a start-to-finish listening experience.

Kalsey Kulyk - Who I Am

We've been craving a new song from country and roots artist Kalsey Kulyk and now that "Who I Am" has dropped, we are not disappointed. Kulyk's whimsical vocals take us along for a heartfelt ride down memory lane when it comes to past relationships. Gorgeous track.

Kiki Rowe - Gimme

Kiki Rowe is giving us all the sexy, slow jam vibes one could ask for in her latest single "Gimme". Looking for a post-dinner date night song to press "play" on? This is it.

Michela Sheedy - Lost

It's been two years since country singer Michela Sheedy has put out a new tune. Slow, earnest and deceptively sad at the beginning, her new song "Lost" is all about how things in life can lead you to that special someone. "Lost my way out of lonely the first time you pulled me in." All the feels.

Peaches - Solid Gold, Easy Action

There is no one in the musical realm quite like Peaches. The enigmatic singer is in a unique genre of her own and, and we can't stop listening to one of her latest tracks, "Solid Gold, Easy Action".

Rita Baga - Something Spiritual

Who hasn't fallen in love with Rita Baga on the premiere season of Canada's Drag Race? Like we mentioned the other week with Scarlett BoBo, drag queen music is often a world all its own (not unlike the aforementioned Peaches), but "Something Spiritual" by Rita Baga transcends. Is anyone else getting some "History Repeating", a la Propellerheads featuring Shirley Bassey, vibes from this song? We really are.

Tyler Shaw - Remember

Aside from spearheading the ArtistsCAN verison of "Lean on me" alongside Fefe Dobson, pop singer Tyler Shaw hasn't released new music for a little while. We're happy he's back in action with this pop-meets-dance single "Remember". With a voice as smooth as Shaw's, this song is worth an immediate replay or two.
